Mic Tip For Panel Discussions
I was at a panel discussion yesterday getting frustrated because I couldn’t hear some of the speakers clearly. The audio mix was great, the microphone holding was not!
Here’s THREE Tips to keep in mind to ensure your voice can be heard perfectly.
1. Don’t hold the mic too close to your mouth. You will “pop” on any word that is a plosive. If you get the chance to test the audio say this into the microphone; “Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers”. You’ll soon find the perfect position to hold the mic.
2. Don’t gesture with the hand that holds the mic. It’s kind of obvious but people still do it. Gesture only with the free hand.
3. Always align head and mic. Yesterday, one speaker held the mic out front but turned their head to address the moderator. They went “off-mic”. We lost what they were saying.
Just remember these three things so we, the audience, can enjoy listening to the engaging on-stage conversations.
