How To Command The Room

Can you see teeny tiny me at the end of the boardroom table?

I’ve sat in some boardroom meetings where the speaker talks at a volume appropriate only to those closest to them.

This does not command the room.

This loses the attention of people at the other end of the table, which could work against you if you are pitching an idea to the whole team.

Everybody needs to hear you.

Here’s what to do:

♦️ Draw the body up
♦️ Straighten the spine
♦️ Expand the chest
♦️ Breath into the diaphragm
♦️ Project the voice

✅ You will increase the volume while keeping the pitch of the voice low.

✅ You will not shout, meaning you will maintain authority.

✅ Your breathing will be regulated, meaning you will speak at a slow, steady pace.

It’s these small adjustments that make a big difference.

Try it next time you need to command the attention of a large room while sitting.
