How To Command Attention With Your Voice

How’s your voice pitch?

An authentic deeper voice commands more attention and conveys more authority. But how do you lower your pitch to find your own deeper voice? Here is an exercise to help you do that.

  1. Stand with your hands by your sides, and look down, putting your chin on your chest.
  2. Take a slow deep breath in, filling your stomach area and your chest area with air. Now, as you exhale, hum a long low note from your throat (hmmmmm) and slowly raise your chin.
  3. Now, with your head upright, count ‘one, two, three’ using the same pitch as your hum.
  4. Do it again, but this time hum a lower note and count ‘one, two, three’ again using that lower pitch. If it feels comfortable you have found your lowest natural pitch.
  5. Breathe in again. As you exhale, hum using your lowest natural pitch and raise your head. Keeping this lower pitch, now say ‘Good afternoon everyone. Thank you for coming today.’

Does your voice sound deeper?

Using a lower pitch will increase your authority when you speak, but it must sound authentic. With practice you can naturally access this powerful voice to engage your listeners and command attention.
